Purpose: |
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). Formally organized as the Spanish Honor Society in 1953, the name was changed in 1959. At present, there are over 1600 chapters world wide. There are 43 chapters in Ohio, and 27 in both Kentucky and Indiana. | ||

CURRENT MEMBERS: Current members must attend 6 out of the 9 meetings, including the induction ceremony (see dates above) and join one of the committees below to remain a member in good standing and to participate in all field trips, events, parties, fund raisers, publications, scholarships and to wear honor cords at graduation. Committees: Fundraisers, Elementary school teaching visits, After-school Spanish tutoring, Senior farewell party, and the Induction ceremony. NEW INITIATES: Any student in their third year of Spanish that has maintained an A average for the first semester will be recommended by their Spanish teacher in January. An invitation is then extended to each individual, who must complete an application form, pay their fee, and be officially inducted at the candlelight ceremony in the spring. |
